Recent news coverage has focused on the proposed Jungo landfill site outside of Winnemucca.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection is responsible for issuance of the environmental permits for the site; specifically permits for air pollution control and solid waste. Per federal and state law, if the company proposing the site, Recology, meets state and federal standards, requested permits must be issued.

By statute, the State of Nevada has no jurisdiction over zoning or land use. Local governments are responsible for these approvals.
